Every one of us is open to making our lives easier. Cleaning your home is a true necessity, and if you’re intent on doing a good job, there are a few items you can opt for that do wonders when making chores a bit less difficult or time consuming. Here are the top items you should have on hand in order to maintain that neat and tidy home.
Nix the Broom
Brooms are excellent for sweeping off decks and front steps, but if you’ve got stone tiling, laminate, or hardwood flooring throughout your home, you’ve probably found sweeping up to be a frustrating process that involves chasing dust bunnies and clumps of dog hair around. Keep the broom for the down and dirty jobs, but choose a dry mop with a microfiber pad for everything else. There are disposable and reusable ones on the market that suck dust and hair right to the pad, so these pseudo-tumbleweeds are eradicated. Dry mops are also very gentle on floors and can be changed out or cleaned if they seem to be spreading the filth around instead of eliminating it.
Mom’s Abrasive Cleaner
There are so many great products out there for tubs, sinks, and toilets, but the name on the label costs more than the product’s effectiveness. Choose powdery abrasive cleaners like the one your mother used to use. These powder cleansers are usually fortified with bleach, so they disinfect these pathogen-riddled surfaces well while scrubbing away stubborn stains or debris that doesn’t come up easily. Gel cleansers smell nice and look pretty as they run down the sides of your toilet bowl, but you’ll scratch the porcelain with your toilet brush before you get those calcium deposits up, and if they do work, it’s only because they use chemicals far worse for your respiratory health than those in a can of Ajax or Comet. These two cleaners are also several dollars cheaper than Toilet Duck or Tilex.
Windex Isn’t Just For Windows
People are very happy to use a dishcloth to clean their counters and purchase wipes for common contact surfaces like the remote, door handles, etc. Unfortunately, dish cloths and sponges harbor so much bacteria that you might as well be wiping down your counter tops with a piece of raw chicken. A window cleaner that features ammonia (like Windex) is perfect for jobs like this. You can use paper towel or washable cloths for wiping down all of these surfaces, and the ammonia will kill most germs, leaving everything safe and clean. It’s excellent for use on chrome and unlike with other cleaners, there is no need to rinse surfaces that come onto contact with food. In fact, window cleaners like Windex have been expanding their product lines to include multi-purpose and antibacterial items. What they don’t tell you is that they all contain the same amount of ammonia. The only real difference is the label, their color, and scent. Just be sure to keep products with ammonia in them far away from products with bleach, which is a very dangerous chemical combination when mixed.
Cleaning products are very expensive. You could buy ten pounds of potatoes for the price of a bottle of floor cleaner, so whenever possible, use reusable tools as opposed to disposable equipment. There are some things you will want to keep disposable due mostly to convenience, but what you can get away with keeping and recycling, please do. Take for instance the new disposable mopping pads and solution sets. You could potentially go through an entire starter kit of mop pads in a Saturday if you have enough square footage, and you can’t be sure that you’re getting everything completely clean if you avoid changing them as often as you should. You’re simply smearing the mess around, whereas a reusable pad can be removed once you notice dirt streaks and rinsed before proceeding with the rest of your mopping job. The purpose of cleaning is to have a clean home when you’re finished, and a floor with wipe marks over its entire surface is not clean.
The world has become a very fast-paced environment. Whether you’re a single person in the throes of beginning your career or a mother of three with three separate sets of appointments, classes, and demands, some people just can’t seem to take care of every chore. There simply aren’t enough hours in one day to check every item off of your list of responsibilities. When your other commitments are taking over and the laundry, dishes, and mopping start to stack up, it’s time to admit defeat and hire a professional cleaning service to pick up the slack. There are many benefits to having a cleaning company work with you to keep your home in tip-top shape, so if you find yourself constantly treading water with your domestic duties, this is a definite service you should consider.
Time is Money, So Save Your Time
There is nothing more daunting than finally having a minute to put your feet up and realizing you have six or seven other tasks to complete. Perhaps you’ve got a dinner party in the works and an entire townhouse to scrub down. There is no time, and even when there is, there are way more important things to take care of. Instead of taking away from free time with your family or much needed relaxation, opt for a professional to come in and take some of the workload off of your shoulders. After all, your time is a precious commodity. Anyone who works long hours can tell you that they are unable to turn down overtime or extra work because they need to clean up their bachelor pad, and your kids aren’t going to wait all night for you to finish up the kitchen before they get their bedtime story. A cleaning company can do the little jobs that add up, or the big jobs you can’t seem to get around to doing.
Your Home is Safe
Hiring a professional cleaning service doesn’t have to be a fear inducing experience either. Some people are very reluctant to hire out because they aren’t comfortable with having someone in their home while they’re away and unable to ensure their possessions are safe. There certainly are horror stories out there about people who have hired a one-man show cleaning service and ended up discovering shortly afterwards that their things have been rifled through and valuables have been taken. Professional cleaning services will often have references and reviews associated with their work, and they usually screen their employees before allowing them into the homes of their clients.
Although we hate to admit it, we’re not always the best at keeping house even when we try. A professional cleaning service may be able to do a more thorough job of tidying up. You’re not exactly focused on the grout in your shower when you get a minute to scrub the toilet, and who wants to clean their oven? It’s not easy or fun, and I’m sure you would rather not be present to breathe in the the fumes from that ‘fume-free’ cleaner. Professional cleaning services are very detail oriented and perform all of the tasks you don’t want to do yourself as well as the things that never occur to you when you do get the chance to once-over your apartment.
If you’re a busy bee and can’t see to find the hours in your week to take on the household chores, don’t struggle in vain. Hire a professional service to do it all for you. They can be extremely affordable, very conscientious, and put you back at the table with your family instead of down the hall with bucket and mop in hand.
